1. Introduction:

HIV/AIDS and STD Alliance Bangladesh (HASAB), is a specialized leading national Non- Government Organization (NGO) highly focused on HIV/AIDS issues, Reproductive health including other development issues and Capacity building of GO, NGOs/CBOs and faith based organizations (FBOs). HASAB was founded in 1994 as a linking organization of International HIV/AIDS Alliance, UK, to respond to the community needs in HIV/AIDS prevention and care programs in Bangladesh. It has been supporting and providing capacity development of grassroots NGOs/CBOs in their organizational/institutional development, technical and managerial capacity in HIV/AIDS and other health related programs. In recent years, HASAB has gradually been expanding its scope of work to SRHR intervention including adolescent development and SRHR issues, addressing human rights issues, community development and participations, community legal services along with other issues to support the socially excluded and marginalized communities.

2. Programmatic Areas:

Program Goal-1: Demonstrate effective, comprehensive and sustainable model of health intervention for marginalized people integrating HIV/AIDS Prevention, care & support services.
Program Goal-2: Scale up comprehensive & integrated health & social intervention for the deprived, marginalized community.
Program Goal-3: Ensure social enhancement that promote self-reliance, peaceful co-existence and reintegration for marginalized community through gender equality, empowerment and promoting rights
Program Goal-4: Most marginalized group of people has more secure and viable livelihood and treated as equal citizen by society
Program Goal-5: Secure the long term viability and sustainability of HASAB

3. Strategic principles:

Engaging community: HASAB will empower socially & economically marginalized communities through enhancing capacity, creating solidarity & and engaging them in program design, implementation, advocacy and policy development.
Networking and alliances: Establish and strengthen functional and learning allies with Government, NGOs/CBOs, private sectors, & other institutions to create a sustainable, affordable and accessible approach to people at need.
Accountability and Transparency: HASAB is accountable to the people we work to support & to those who support our work and also liable for using the resources efficiently.
Sustainability: HASAB believes in long term vow to marginalized and vulnerable groups to achieve lasting impact at broad scale on health and social equality.
Evidence based advocacy to address Policy level as well as Operational level: Evidence based advocacy to address Policy level as well as Operational level. HASAB will act as ‘Change-maker’ through influencing different sectors to change in relevant laws, policies, practices, beliefs, attitudes, knowledge and behaviors through generating knowledge.

4. Strategic Direction and Approach:

Rights-based approach: HASAB follow the human rights framework as it deems that every human being has inalienable rights and a deprivation of needs can be addressed as a denial of rights.
Service provision: HASAB will implement all its activities through managing partners and also directly.
Responsive programming : HASAB emphasize on targeted and responsive programming considering local priority, epidemic and resources.
Inclusive approach: HASAB believes that all people are of equal value and consequently that all health & development settings should make high-quality, balanced provision to help all to attain rights to their full potential.
Learning agility: HASAB ensure & encourage accumulate knowledge & program excellence through monitoring & operational research, reflect this knowledge within organization and externally for replication and guide to transform this knowledge into action.
Promoting ICT: HASAB has taken ICT as strategic pathway and will emphasize using ICT for effective and quick communication with various stakeholders. It will create new horizon for behavior Change Communication (BCC) and effective management of program.
